English translation
I had gone out to India with high hopes and youthful enthusiasm, but within a year I was broken down with overwork, on the verge of nervous prostration. I was suffering from maladjustment; my life had been one of overwork but not of overflow; it was like dreary artificial pumping, there were no spontaneous rivers of inward experience flowing out in joyous service. I had failed in my outward service because I was failing in my inward life.
