His [Bruno Bauer's] great merit consists not only in the ruthless criticism of the four Gospels and Apostolic Epistles, but also in that he has undertaken a serious investigation not only of the Jewish and Greek-Alexandrian, but also of the pure Greek and Greek-Roman elements which really opened for Christianity the road toward becoming a world religion.
